SASE (Secure Access Service Edge)

SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) is a network architecture model introduced by research firm Gartner in 2019. It combines wide area networking (WAN) functionality with comprehensive, cloud-native security services into a single, unified cloud-delivered service model.

SASE converges several distinct networking and security functions into one cloud platform. Key components typically include:  Networking (WAN Edge) and Security Services (Security Service Edge - SSE)

SASE solves this by: 1 Identity-Driven: Access policies are based on the user's identity and context, not just their IP address or location. 2 Cloud-Native & Distributed: The security inspection and networking services run on a global network of cloud PoPs (Points of Presence) close to the user and the applications. 3 Edge Inspection: When a user connects to the SASE provider’s nearest PoP, all security inspections and routing optimizations happen at the network edge, ensuring low latency
